About Middlesbrough R.H.C.

Middlesbrough Roller Hockey Club was founded in 1947. We can be found at the Rainbow Leisure Centre at the Parkway Centre, Coulby Newham Middlesbrough.

The club is run by parents and players on a voluntary basis. One parent, Mr Dave Fothergill puts a lot of time and effort in to Middlesbrough Roller Hockey Club, Training and coaching our Children Long after his son stopped when he went to University, Thankyou Dave.

Currently we have roller hockey teams competing in the Northen Counties Under 12's, Under 15's, Under 17's, and Senior League. We currently have a team in the top flight of Roller Hockey in England, The National Premier League. Many of our players are involved with the National team. Middlesbrough hope at some point to take part in the CERS European Cup.

Middlesbrough Roller Hockey Clubs premier league team are currently ranked 219th out of 1068 teams in the world.

Middlesbrough Roller Hockey Club started a long friendship in 1947 with Albert Park Roller Skating Rink,

The rink flourished in the fifties and sixties and a superb new Terrazo tile floor was laid and a barrier installed, this made the Albert Park Rink one of the finest in the country at this time.

Roller Hockey was always popular at the rink and apart from league and cup matches there were successful and prestigous tournaments such as the Middlesbrough Open and the Cleveland International Festival held for many years with teams from all over Europe asking to attend.

Such events always attracted the keenly interested and the curious spectators, who just happened to be enjoying a day out at the park and would come to watch.

By 1980/81, however the surface was becoming dangerous and the hockey club decided to leave because of safety fears, they started to play their matches at the Herlingsshaw Centre Eston, until the Rainbow Centre opened in 1985 and gave us an indoor rink were we still train to this very day.

Tony Czifra is working very closely with the Managers of Albert Park to resolve the problems with the floor so that Middlesbrough R.H.C. can return for extra training.
